Carl Sandburg College is shuttering their cosmetology program for the time being. CSC offers a cosmetology certificate, cosmetology teacher certificate, and an Associate’s in cosmetology. Declining enrollment and lack of state dollars during the Illinois budget impasse contributed to the decision according to President Dr. Lori Sundberg. Sundberg says she and her counterparts have to examine programs closely to see if they’re financially viable.
In a statement she says, “unfortunately, our cosmetology program…has not been financially viable for some time.”
They are hopeful that the program could return at some point but they will have to evaluate ways to provide the program more efficiently and how to create more interest. Sundberg says if cosmetology comes back to CSC it will likely have a different “curriculum, schedule, and perhaps, methods of deliver.” The downtown annex salon will still operate as usual until classes are completed in late July.
