The Galesburg Silver Streaks were able to hold off the Peoria Lions to win the Martin Luther King Tournament for the 5th time in 8 years, 53 – 49, the final score in Monday nights championship game. Galesburg had an 8 point lead in the fourth quarter but a 9 point run by Peoria put the Lions on top 46 to 45 and it was back and forth the rest of the way.
Some big free throws by the Silver Streaks; 1 by Mark Harden, 2 by Jacob Ross and 5 by T.J. Pendleton in the fourth quarter.
Pendleton led the streaks in scoring with 18 points and make the All-Tournament Team, as did Harden who finished Monday night’s game with 12 points.
Galesburg is now 14 and 8 on the season as they win the Martin Luther King Tournament with 4 consecutive victories, two on Sunday and two on Monday.
Galesburg now heads into conference play Friday night when Rock Island Comes to Thiel gym. We will have that game right here on WGIL @ 7:06 Friday night!
