Here’s a re-cap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
A tight first half turned into a not quite so tight second half for the Galesburg boys basketball team in a 60-48 loss at United Township.
Panthers led the entire second half and had as little as a two-point lead but eventually worked their way up to a 12 point lead. Galesburg chased them but could never catch up and drops to 14-10 on the season and 1-5 in the Western Big 6 conference.
Streaks had only one player in double-figures and that was our Dave’s Autobody Crunchtime Player of the Game, Andrew Anderson who had 12 points, 7 rebounds but he didn’t even start the game. TJ Pendleton was among 4 players who finished with 9 points as he was also the Streaks’ leading rebounder with 10.
Trae Buchanan was the big weapon for the Panthers, leading the way with 37 points, with 21 of those coming in the first half and knocked down just about every free-throw he shot. He helped build UT’s lead and also maintained it. UT also put Hughes in double-figures with 11.
Panthers are alone on top of the WB6 conference at 7-0 and 21-3 on the season.
Galesburg sophomores got a big win tonight, 63-56 in overtime with Nick Fields hitting a tying 3-pointer with 2 seconds left that sent the game into overtime. The Streaks sophomores hit the first 8 points in the extra session.
Both teams back in action at home in the Galesburg shootout as Streaks sophomores will play at the fieldhouse as the Galesburg boys will play Lake Forest Academy at varsity level Saturday night at 7:45 with pre-game at 7:25, if everything is running on time.
