Mildred F. Bailey

Mildred Fawn Seckman Bailey, 99, formerly of rural Cameron, passed away at 11:26 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1917 near Douglas, Wyoming, the daughter of Fredrick and Goldie Talley Seckman.  The family moved several times: Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. She was baptized in Oklahoma and in Butler Missouri met her husband, Clyde Bailey.  They were married there on November 14, 1937.  Their marriage lasted 62 years and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2000.  To this union, two children were born: daughter M. Jodell Bailey and son Fredrick C. Bailey.  While living in Illinois, she worked at the Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon and the State Research Hospital in Galesburg for 31 years, retiring in 1985.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, a great-grandson, Cody and sister, Erma Gorsline.

She is survived by her son, Fredrick (Nancy) Bailey of Galesburg, 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and 2 on the way.

She and Clyde loved to travel, fish, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Her hobbies included handcrafts, cooking and gardening. Her prideful wish is to be buried in her wedding dress.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.  Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
