Mrs. Shirley M. Gottenborg, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 2:05 pm Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born September 20, 1929 in Peoria, Illinois the daughter of James and Florence Berrens Price. Shirley was raised by Gramps and Tootsie Folliet. She married Patrick McGee October of 1947and later married Richard Gottenborg on February 14, 1975. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1996.
She is survived by her four sons, Michael B. McGee of California, Christopher P. McGee of Cleveland, Ohio, Mark A. McGee of Portland, Oregon, Kevin A. (Jane) McGee of Galesburg, two step sons, Richard (Lorraine) Gottenborg, Jr. and Phillip C. Gottenborg both of Galesburg; one daughter, Kathleen (William) Shank of Mims, Florida, one step daughter, Lynn (James) Shipp of Altona, Illinois; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Margaret Jean Smith.
Shirley worked as the secretary for Monmouth TV for several years. She later was the secretary for Gottenborg Chrysler Plymouth. Shirley had also worked as the nursing administration at Knox Manor Nursing Home. She taught art for Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth. She graduated from Spalding High School in Peoria in 1947. Shirley loved to play golf at Lake Bracken Country Club. She was an artist and enjoyed cooking. Shirley enjoyed flying and had taken flying courses in hopes to earn her pilot license.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 6:00 pm Wednesday September 27, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.
