Michael Leo Kisler, 58 of Knoxville, died Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born April 3, 1959 in Galesburg, the son of Clyde L. and Marjorie Jean (Ganson) Kisler.

Mike is survived by one daughter, Mara (and James) Thomas of DeSoto, Missouri; five grandchildren; two sisters, Kristy (and Tomas Vargas) Kisler of Chicago and Cindy (and Allen) Newendyke of Batavia; two nieces, Erin Vargas and Alexis Newendyke and one great-niece, Cielo Bernard; and one nephew, Ryan Newendyke.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Tonya Redington.

Mike grew up in Galesburg and moved with his family to Abingdon in 1973.  He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1977 and later graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1981, where he studied Mortuary Science.  He worked at funeral homes in Woodhull, Havana and Knoxville.  He received his EMT certification from the University of Iowa in Ames.  He moved to Chicago in the mid 80’s and worked as an EMT, then later branched out into the telecommunication field.  Mike was a past volunteer EMT for the former Abingdon Ambulance.  He was a former member the Jaycees and the Knights of Columbus.  He currently was employed at Wal-Mart in Galesburg.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 506 N. Main St. in Abingdon.  Rev. William Miller IC will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the praying of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m.  Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
