Charles William Dixon, 84 of Avon, passed away at 4:56 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at the home of his granddaughter and care giver, Sonia York, in Burlington, Iowa. He was born January 13, 1933 in Avon, the son of Worth and Faye Anna Rarrick Dixon.  He married Charlyne Ruth Parks on July 27, 1957 in Macomb.  She preceded him in death on July 6, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Orville, James “Don”, Arthur, Doris, Martha and May.

Charles is survived by his children, Rebecca (John) Parcell of West Burlington, Iowa, David (JoAnna) Dixon of Galesburg, and Duane Dixon of Sedalia, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Clark Smith of Galesburg.

He was a lifelong resident of Avon.  He worked at the former Coles Implement in St. Augustine, Akers Fertilizer in Avon, Neff Company in Avon for 28 years and he also was the janitor at the former Saunders Hospital and Avon Nursing Home.  His hobbies included gardening and sharing produce with his neighbors, tinkering on his Ford tractors but most of all, he loved and enjoyed teasing his grandkids.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.  Rev Jon Prain will officiate.  Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
