Here’s a re-cap of tonight’s game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
The Galesburg High School boys basketball team secured a monumental victory on the road in the Western Big 6, holding off a furious 4th Quarter rally by United-Township and won, 62-58.
Galesburg fell behind early in the game, 6-0 but rallied back in the second quarter with a 8-0 run that built an 8-point halftime lead and still led by 10 by the end of the 3rd. In the 4th Quarter, Streaks were maintaining an 11-point lead, at 50-39, when the Panthers rallied back but the Silver Streaks held them off. They held them off thanks firstly to our Dave’s Auto-body Crunch-Time player of the Game, Cornell Dotson who knocked down a huge 3-pointer late in the 3rd quarter as part of a 7-0 run that got the Streaks up by 10 and hit the game-winning free-throws with just 10 seconds left.
Dotson finished with a season-high 12 points, Andrew Anderson led with 14, Quinn Anderson got his first start on the varsity level with 12 and Khalil Hodge had 11.
Galesburg improves to 6-1 overall, 1-1 in the conference as United-Township drops to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Galesburg sophomores were winner’s as well, 48-34 as they put two players in double-figures. Both teams will be back in action against Morton with the sophomores at 5:00 and varsity at 6:30 with our pre-game at 6:10.
