Single vehicle crash results in a man charged with DUI

Galesburg Police arrested a man Friday night on charges of Driving Under the Influence following a single vehicle crash.

Officers were called out to the 100 block of S. Dietrich Ave at around 10:55 p.m. Friday for a driving complaint on a white 1999 Ford Escape allegedly nearly hitting several subjects in the roadway.

According to police reports, the vehicle was located by officers in the 100 block of S. Arthur Ave – in the west side ditch facing eastbound.

Reports also indicate that Officers followed the tracks from where the car left the roadway on Dietrich, traveled through residential yards before crashing into the ditch.

It was noted that the vehicle had significant front end damage due to striking the ditch. They also noted that the subject in question – 23-year-old Edward J. Waters was visibly upset and allegedly slurring his speech.

Officers had Waters conduct a field sobriety test, which officers stopped short of completing when he allegedly had difficulties finishing.

According to the reports, he had a blood alcohol level of .209 .

Waters was charged with DUI, Failure to Reduce Speed, Reckless Driving, and having no valid drivers license.
