Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball vs. Olney Tigers

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team got back to .500 with a win over the Olney Tigers Thursday night with a final score of 62-53. Galesburg is now 8-8 on the season and that win puts them back into the championship game here at the Mattoon Holiday Tournament. The Streaks have never NOT played in the championship here; this is the 6th year and they are 3-2 in previous championships. The Streaks were lead by Emily Meinert’s 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and one block. Emily Meinert was our Dave’s Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She had 11 points in the first half to get the Streaks out to big 20 point lead – they were up 31-11 at the half. Andrea Sampson added 13 points including a couple of 3’s, a couple of 2’s and 3/4 from the line. Yvonne Mixon had 10 points on 4 baskets and was also 2/6 from the free throw line. The Streaks shot about 44% from the field and were 23/38 from the line as a team. The Streaks, with just 10 turnovers, took care of the ball very well and came out with the victory. Galesburg moves on to the championship game Friday night.
