Jerry D. Garner, 77, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 12:50 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home.He was born on June 20, 1940 in Monmouth, the son of Chester and Freda (Jessen) Garner. Jerry was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth High School.
Jerry married Lucy M. Lefort on March 8, 1958 in Monmouth, she survives.
Jerry retired from Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg as a welder. He loved to fish, garden, and yard work. Jerry’s children and grandchildren were his main interest.
Surviving Jerry is his wife, Lucy Garner of Monmouth; two children, Jerry D. (Jean) Garner, Jr. of Little York, IL, Julie Colwell of Oquawka, IL; four grandchildren, James Robert Garner of Galesburg, IL, Jessica Garner of Galesburg, IL, Jeffrey Colwell of Strong Hurst, IL, and Holly Colwell of Oquawka, IL. Also surviving are five great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Buster of Monmouth; and brother, Larry “Butch” Garner of Monmouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy Garner, grandson Jason Carnes, three brothers and three sisters.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Memorials can be made to Strom Center in Monmouth.
