Nancy M. Stegall, 82 of Abingdon, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born October 30, 1935 in Abingdon, the daughter of Claude and Gladys Greene Peck. She married H. Raleigh Stegall on November 12, 1954 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant grandson, Joshua Morse.
Nancy is survived by her children, John (Jenny) Stegall of Abingdon, Brenda (Rev. Randy) Morse of Scott City, Missouri and Rick (Anita) Stegall of La Salle; 6 grandchildren, Mandy Stegall, Angie Huckstep, Stephanie McMillan, Nathan Morse, Andrew Stegall, and Ashley Stegall; and 3 great-grandchildren.
She had lived most of her life in Abingdon and Galesburg. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1953. She later worked as a secretary at the Abingdon High School for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member and Deaconess of the Abingdon Christian Church. She also taught Sunday school, played the piano for Sunday school and was active in the church choir. She was a member of the Abingdon Garden Club and the Grandmothers Club. Her hobbies included gardening and collecting horse carousels.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the First Assembly of God, 835 W. Martin St. in Abingdon. Rev. Darryl McDaniel, Rev. Randy Morse and Rev. Nathan Morse will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
