Chicago-area man sentenced to 30 years in car hijacking case

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the 2013 hijacking of an elderly couple’s car.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin says in a news release that 38-year-old Rockie Douglas pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking on Wednesday and was sentenced by Judge John Kinsella.

The resident of the Lake County community of Beach Park was fleeing from police in a stolen car Dec. 21, 2013, when the vehicle broke down in DuPage County. When an elderly couple pulled over to help him, he shoved them out of their vehicle and drove off.

Douglas was arrested several days later in Wisconsin in another stolen vehicle and brought back to Illinois and held in DuPage County Jail.
