Roger F. Cameron, 77 of Abingdon, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born September 3, 1940 in Bushnell, the son of Kenneth and Evelyn Sanders Cameron.  He married Jeanette A. Herrold on June 16, 1962.  She preceded him in death on January 29, 2001.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie Freerks.

Roger is survived by two daughters, Diana Shinn (Brian Ellis) of Abingdon and Charlene Luker; one son, Roger L. (Lori) Cameron of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; one brother, Dave (Mary) Cameron of Bushnell; and one sister Cindi Johnson of New Mexico.

He grew up in Bushnell and graduated from Bushnell High School.  He joined the US Navy and served from June 12, 1958 to August 18, 1961.  He was a truck driver for his dad and grandpa after serving in the Navy.  He had lived most of his adult life in Abingdon and worked at the Maytag Factory in Galesburg and retired from there after 30 years of service.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing chess and video games.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  Rev. Tom Smith and Waylon Smith will officiate.  Burial with military rites will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
