Mr. Edwin V. Parrish, 93, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 7:19 am Monday, March 26, 2018 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.He was born August 14, 1924 in Brashear, Missouri the son of Leslie and Bessie Evans Parrish. He married Marilyn Mitchell in Kahoka, Missouri on August 10, 1947. He later married Jennie Lee Johnson in Knoxville, Illinois on March 6, 1971. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2007.
He is survived by his two sons, Gregory (Jane Anne) Parrish of Indianola, Iowa and Jeffery (Cindy) Parrish of Louisville, Kentucky; two step sons, Bruce (Susie) Johnson of Galesburg and Gary (Luann) Johnson of Dahinda, Illinois; two step daughters, Janice (Don) Sundquist of Galesburg and Dorrene (Mike) Endicott of Rock Island, Illinois; four grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; fifteen step great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and his lifelong friends, Pat and Donna Godsil of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, Lucille Harris and Coreen Ryner and two brothers, Ernest and Robert Parrish.
Edwin served in the US Navy as a Seaman 1st class for two years in the Pacific.
He worked for the Maytag Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Edwin was an avid bingo player. One of his great joys was watching his grandson race cars.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by VFW 2257/Legion 285. Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be held later in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
