Suburban Chicago man charged with fatal hit-and-run

CHICAGO (AP) – Charges have been filed in connection with the death last week of a Chicago woman struck by a car driven by a man fleeing police.

Curtis Pugh of Matteson is charged with murder in the death of Julia Calloway on Thursday.

Calloway was crossing a Chicago street Thursday when the car driven by the 22-year-old Pugh slammed into her and another pedestrian. The 55-year-old woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 30-year-old man was treated at the scene.

Police say Pugh drove away, but later crashed the car. Three people ran from the auto, but were later arrested. Authorities say drugs were found in the car.

In addition to murder, Pugh is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and manufacturing or delivering cocaine or an analog substance.

It wasn’t immediately known if Pugh has legal representation.
