Ruth E. Carwile, 97, of Monmouth, IL, died at 10:54 pm Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, IL.
She was born March 11, 1920 in Burgess, rural Mercer County, IL, the daughter of Lytle and Mary E. (Pinkerton) Hamilton. She was raised and educated in Warren County and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1937. She later graduated from Monmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and later from Western Illinois University with a Master of Science Degree in education.
Ruth married Ralph H. Carwile in Warren County, IL on December 29, 1941 and he passed away on November 3, 1996.
Ruth was a first grade teacher for the Monmouth School District teaching at Harding Elementary School for 24 years. She was a member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth and enjoyed quilting, needlework, traveling, reading and playing golf.
Survivors include her children, Roy Carwile of Massachusetts and Robin (Eric) Wagner of Hampton, IA; 7 grandchildren, Brad Bergren, Jason Bergren, James Carwile, Heather Carwile Brandon, Erin McCain, Sarah McCready and Ericka Schoen, 12 great grandchildren; her brother, Charles Hamilton of Jerseyville, Il and son in law, Vern Bergren of Abingdon, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Rita Bergren.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Monmouth Cemetery. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be given to the Illinois Retired Teacher’s Foundation memorial fund.
