WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) – The leader of a county board in suburban Chicago is taking a 30-day leave of absence to undergo treatment for a drug addiction.
Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor announced Monday that he has started recovery at a Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Treatment Center. The Lake County News-Sun reports that Lawlor’s statement didn’t specify the drug addiction for which he is seeking treatment.
Lawlor says he’s “getting back to the Aaron people knew before addiction took hold of my life.” He says his addiction has damaged his life and personal finances.
Court records show Lawlor was named in a residential foreclosure case filed in January that is now closed.
Lawlor is a Republican who’s been a county board member since 2009.
