Steve “Irv” Irvin McVey, 53 of Abingdon, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with his family at his side.He was born September 23, 1964 in Galesburg, the son of Leslie I. and Alicia Dominguez McVey. He married Kathy Spears on December 30, 1996 on the beach in Key West, Florida.
Irv is survived by his son, Trae McVey at home, his daughters, Jamie (and Tye) Shreves of Abingdon and Mindy Colwell of Mediapolis, Iowa; his sister, Shani McVey of Peoria; six grandchildren, Alexis Nelson, Zuriah Nelson, Rayne Nelson, Kenleigh Shreves, Kora Shreves and Kye Shreves; one niece, Megan McVey and two nephews, Trent McVey and Kyle McVey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nick McVey.
He had lived in Abingdon all his life. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1982 and later attended Carl Sandburg College. In his earlier years, he worked at Bob Jones Auto Body, the Abingdon Pottery and Maytag in Galesburg. He owned and operated Irv’s Car Care Center in Abingdon the past 8 years, and he enjoyed taking great care of his customers. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, he liked motorcycle racing and he attended all the Abingdon-Avon School athletic events. He was a people person and talking was his number one attribute. He loved his family.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church followed by his funeral service with his friend, Pastor Randy Randle officiating. Cremation will be accorded after the service. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
