Playgrounds and parking lots main focus of 205’s summer improvements

Big questions remain on the future of certain District 205 buildings, but through the summer there have been some noticeable changes on Galesburg school grounds.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Jennifer Hamm gave the Board of Education a brief update at Monday night’s meeting.

She said it was expected by the end of this week that new playground equipment would be installed at Steele Elementary, as well as a fence to surround the perimeter.

Silas Willard School had their parking lot redone and this week she expected lights to be installed.

Speaking of parking lots GHS students and staff will be glad to hear that the high school got resealed and re-striped over the summer months.

In July, Legat Architects were hired to provide “comprehensive facility plan” for board review by September.

Hamm mentioned a handful of engagement meetings with Legat for community members and district stakeholders to bring questions, concerns and visions for 205 buildings going forward.

The first of those meetings will be at F&M Bank at 21 East Main Street starting at 5:00 p.m. This meeting will be a facilities use brainstorming session for business owners.

Additionally 205’s maintenance building now has a new roof.
