SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The quest for Illinois attorney general’s office pits Republican Erika Harold against Democrat Kwame Raoul.
They square off Nov. 6 to replace departing Democratic incumbent Lisa Madigan.
The 54-year-old Raoul is a state Senate veteran from Chicago touting his legal and policymaking experience. He sees an expanding role for the attorney general in defending state sovereignty against federal government intrusions. He pledges stepped-up attacks on online sexual predators and gun violence.
Harold is a 38-year-old former Miss America and civil litigator from Urbana who wants to fight opioid abuse with courts that divert non-violent offenders to treatment. Her plans for criminal justice reform include expanded training for inmates and helping ex-offenders re-enter communities.
Both pledge action against public corruption.
Libertarian Bubba Harsy is also on the ballot.
