David L. Goedeke, 74, of Galesburg, died suddenly on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at home.He was born January 22, 1944, in Galesburg, the son of Marion and Bernice I. (Roate) Goedeke.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandy; six children, Pegie Courier, Dava (husband, Kory Duke) Goedeke, Tammie Brooks, John Brooks, and Katrina (husband, Ryan) Hummel, all of Galesburg and Kevin Brooks of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, William (wife, Betty) Goedeke of Galesburg; a sister, Joann (husband, Terry) Harpman of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Pat Courier in 1999.

Dave was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1962. He graduated from the Police Academy at the University of Illinois in 1970 and began a 27-year career in law enforcement, first with the Galesburg Police Department and then with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. After retirement from law enforcement, Dave managed Dave’s Book and Card Shop for five years. Since August of 2017, he has worked as a part-time delivery driver for O’Reilly Auto Parts.

Dave enjoyed fishing and hunting, woodworking, and random odd jobs.   He also enjoyed breakfast with the “dinosaur” club, who were fellow retired police officers, spending time with his family, and cooking.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.   Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
