One of the most visible employees of Knox College in Galesburg is being recognized for her efforts to help the city.

“Her tireless efforts to help bridge Galesburg and Knox College have brought common benefits to both,” says Galesburg City Clerk Kelli Bennewitz. “She has a rare combination of talents that help spell success for community projects and initiatives.”

Bennewitz, last year’s winner of the Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce’s Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award, presented this year’s award to Knox College Director of Government and Community Affairs, Karrie Heartlein, on Monday.

“Galesburg has been [my family’s] home for over 20 years,” says Heartlein. “We love it here. We’re so happy. We raised our children here. I’m really honored and pleased to be a part of the Galesburg community, to have a hand in making a difference and making this a better place for all of us.”
