As we’ve reported, the issuance of an Amber Alert over the weekend turned out to be a hoax, when the man making the report told investigators he had made the abduction up. Some have called into question just how it is the situation got to that level anyway, and wonder what the criteria is for issuing an Amber Alert to begin with. We sought to get some answers on “Galesburg’s Evening News” with Trooper Jason Wilson, Safety Education Officer for Illinois State Police District 7. Wilson also talks about upcoming traffic enforcement efforts related to the Christmas and New Years Day holidays.
(NOTE: Illinois State Police District 7 covers Knox, Rock Island, Henry, and Mercer Counties, and therefore wasn’t involved in the issuance of Saturday night’s Amber Alert.)
