Gifts for family of suburban security guard shot by police

CHICAGO (AP) – A towing company’s owner decorated four of his trucks as reindeer and sent them to deliver more than $1,000 worth presents to the family of the bar security guard who was fatally shot by a suburban Chicago police officer last month.

W&W Towing owner Early Walker tells WLS-TV he wanted to send Jemel Roberson’s family gifts as a way to tell his young son and the baby Roberson’s girlfriend is expecting that their father was a hero.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting of Roberson outside a bar in the suburb of Robbins. The agency has said witnesses have told investigators that the Midlothian officer opened fire after ordering Roberson to drop his weapon. But one of Roberson’s co-workers said he never heard the officer give such an order.
