Master Chief Urbin Powell Conrad, US Navy Reserves, Retired, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 7:10 am Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.He was born September 7, 1922 in Pennsylvania, the son of George and Annabelle Conrad. He married Marjorie A. Johnson on February 23, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2010.

Urbin is survived by his son, Michael Paul (Dawn) Conrad of Abingdon, Illinois; six grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) Conrad, William (Ekaterina) Conrad, A.J. (Jen) Conrad, Tonya Conrad-Kline, Joshua Conrad and Jacob Conrad; and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and a sister.

Urbin enlisted in the US Marine Corp during WWII and upon completion of active duty transferred to the US Navy Reserves. He served his country for over 40 years, retiring as Master Chief. In addition to serving in WWII, he also served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Urbin later worked for the Rock Island Arsenal as an equipment management specialist for many years. He graduated from high school in 1939 in Pennsylvania. Urbin had extensive military training and exceeded academic expectations, testing out of college courses. He was a member of the local VFW #2257 and the Rock Island Legion Post #200. He enjoyed volunteering his time, preparing taxes for the elderly in Rock Island for many years.

At his request, Urbin will be cremated and reunited with his wife, Marjorie, at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois with private family services.
