Mr. Freddy D. Bailey, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois, died 5:13 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Galesburg. Freddy was born on February 15, 1930 in Schuyler, Nebraska, the son of Tom and Eva Hughes Bailey. He married Odeeda Connerly on July 20, 1951 in Schuyler, Nebraska. She preceded him in death January 25, 2013.
Surviving are two sons, Ted (and Christine) Bailey of Galesburg and Charlie (and Sherri) Bailey of Galesburg; two daughters, Michele (and Fritz) Archer of Galesburg and Paula (and Craig) Meverden of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Justin, Abby, Zach, Mitchell, Elijah, Molly and Ari; and two great grandchildren, Stella and Micah. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.
Freddy was raised in Schuyler, Nebraska and graduated in 1948 from Schuyler High School. He was in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He moved to Galesburg in 1958 where he owned and operated his own Excavating Company, Fred D. Bailey Excavating, for 40 years and retired in 1995. Freddy was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg and was very active in church activities throughout his life.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. Visitation will be 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the church.
