ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) – A registered sex offender accused of stalking a Rockford woman for months before he allegedly abducted her from her home last month, raped her and left her in the basement of another house handcuffed to a workout bench has been indicted on several felony charges.
The (Rockford) Register Star reports that the 21-count grand jury indictment against 43-year-old Matthew S. Harkey of Rockford was announced Thursday by Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross. The charges include felony counts of aggravated sexual assault, home invasion, kidnapping, and aggravated stalking.
After the March 13 attack, prosecutors say the 34-year-old woman dragged the bench from the basement of the home belonging to a relative of Harkey in nearby Roscoe onto the street where she found help.
