Knoxville Alderman approved the roof replacement of the larger pavilion at James Knox Park. Estimates for the all-steel roof came in around $6,840 – plus up to an additional $3,000 if sheeting would need to be replaced. The Council decided to hold off on replacing the smaller pavilion roof at the park for another year.
According to Knoxville Mayor Dennis Maurer, a grocery store moving into the former Goff’s Appliance Building on Main Street is not going to happen. Alderman voted and approved the removal of a liquor license for a grocery store on that property. Aldermen also addressed a possible change in a liquor license for St. Mary’s Chapel in Knoxville. Owner Keith Vaughn informed the council on his intentions hosting weddings and receptions at the chapel. Vaughn’s plans include hosting receptions under a tent on the property this summer – with a pavilion with roll-down sides to be built for next summer. City Attorney Rob McCoy is going to draft an event-based liquor license that may possibly mimic a Hidden Hills Vineyard license.
- The Council also discussed a contract renewal with Bock Incorporated to operate the city’s wastewater treatment plant and lift station for $700,000 until 2024. The contract extension was approved.
- In preparation for the upcoming bump in the minimum wage for the State of Illinois, Knoxville Alderman approved raises city employee compensation pay bumps. Full-time department heads for the city would see an increase of 50 cents per hour, full-time employees would see an extra 40 cents per hour and 30 cents per hour for part-time employees.
- Mayor Maurer also read a proclamation recognizing May as Motorcycle Awareness Month for the City of Knoxville.
