Several Galesburg residents had their mail opened or damaged last night in a series of thefts.
Police say that three individuals in black clothing were seen going through mailboxes, opening mail, and causing damage to mailboxes last night at around 12:13 a.m.
Police reports indicate that several houses along Parkway Court, Lincoln Park Drive, Christopher Drive, Cornelia Road, and Clark Court were targeted.
While investigating, officers located the three suspects but they ran and were able to get away.
Stealing mail is a federal crime, and could land an individual in federal prison for as much as five years and/or a $250,000 fine.
