Erwin, James E.

James Edward Erwin, 67 of Galesburg, passed away at 2:16 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born November 10, 1951 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of Harold L. and Mary Ruth (Malone) Erwin. He married Diana L. Clayton and she preceded him in death on January 2, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary Erwin. Jim is survived by one daughter, Bambi (and Duane) Miller of Galesburg; one son, James G. Erwin of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Brittany Erwin, Sara Miller, Jacob Miller and Jayson Miller; one stepson, Terry Wells of Chicago; and a nephew, Rick (and Tracy) Erwin of Glasford.

He lived most of his life in the Abingdon and Galesburg areas. He had also lived in Table Grove for 8 years and made many friends. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received the National Service Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, one Overseas Service Bar. He worked for and retired from Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg.   He enjoyed watching TV, and his hobbies were hunting and fishing, playing cards, bowling, throwing darts and listening to Karaoke singers.

Military rites and graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.
