An Avon woman and former pet store owner has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, after dozens of dead animals were found inside the store this time last year.
Court records indicate 39-year-old Jessica Spangler pleaded guilty in McDonough county this week to four counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Authorities conducted an investigation in late-May of last year at the Macomb Pet Land after residents claimed the store was out of business but animals were still inside. Fourty-one dead animals in total were found — ranging from snakes to rabbits to hermit crabs among others. Another 56 animals still alive were also recovered and, at the time, were given foster homes through the Mcdonough County Animal Shelter.
Spangler is scheduled to be sentenced August 5.
