The Galesburg High School football team opened up its 2019 season in the exact same fashion as it did in 2018…tied with Dunlap at 7 at halftime, and falling 21-7 for the Final.
The Eagles got a 49-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Chatterton to Casey Ericson midway through the 4th quarter that put them on top 14-7. The Silver Streaks were unable to get a 1st down on their next possession. Dunlap then just handed it off to their big fullback, Mitchell Gore, who almost single-handedly moved the ball downfield and ultimately gave them the two touchdown victory.
Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game was sophomore Dre Egipciaco who made a tremendous catch on a 10-yard pass play and then stopped on a dime, reversed direction, cut to the opposite field outrunning the defense for a 48-yard touchdown and the Streaks’ only score of the night.
The Galesburg freshman lost the opener, 27-7. The Galesburg JV will play their first game on Monday night.
Next up for the Silver Streaks, a road trip to Centralia next Saturday (9/07). WGIL will begin the pregame at 12:30 PM with a 1:00 PM kick-off.
