Alpaca breeder says she fell in love with the animals’ fiber

PLYMOUTH, Ill. (AP) – A western Illinois alpaca breeder says she’s found her art through working with the animals’ luxurious fibers.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports that Lindsey Moore is showcasing the alpacas at her farm in Plymouth during National Alpaca Farm Days this weekend.

Moore owns a total of 53 Suri and Huacaya alpacas. She says she fell in love with the animals’ eyes, personalities, and fiber.

Fiber is sheared from alpacas in the spring and it can be spun into yarn for clothes, toys, rugs and other products.

Moore says working with the fibers and turning them into yarn is like “making a color palette for someone to paint with.”

Visitors to Moore’s Little Creek Alpacas farm can meet the animals and watch spinning and felting demonstrations.
