Carl Sandburg College trustees approved the tentative 2019 property tax levy at their Thursday night meeting.

The equalized assessed valuations of the college’s district have increased for several years, with a three percent increase anticipated for the levy year 2019.

The board passed a tentative operating levy of 47.86 cents per $100 of EAV — .45-cent increase in tax rate from the previous year.

The college says this is consistent with the school’s, quote, “intention to maintain a high-quality educational experience without significantly changing the tax rate for many years.”

In other action, nearly a million dollars in protection, health, and safety projects were approved for the main campus of Carl Sandburg College at their board meeting on Thursday.

An estimate of $932,000 in funds was approved for re-roofing the Center for Manufacturing Excellence, adding a sidewalk from the Student Center to the manufacturing center.

Additionally, the board approved replacing entry doors for buildings B, C, and D, and replacing the air handler at the college’s server room.

On the subject of employment trends, board members heard a presentation from Ellen Burns, the dean of career and technical education, regarding the CTE department and the school’s Corporate and Leisure College.

The board also approved several hires and resignations in administration and support staff.
