It was a successful opener for the Galesburg High School boys basketball team under first year head coach, Ryan Hart, as the Silver Streaks held off Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin, 73-62, in the annual Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Silver Streaks were impressive early building a 21-point lead into the 2nd quarter as they out-scored the Griffins 17-0. But the Griffins were not done. They knocked down all eight three-point shots they attempted in the 3rd quarter to rally back within four. And it was still as close as four early in the fourth quarter when the Streaks started to spread the lead out and ended up winning the game by eleven.
Jaylin McCants was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He finished with a career-high 33-points and a double-double with 10 rebounds, four of those in the fourth quarter when the Streaks managed to really take control of the game.
Eric Price had 22-points, including a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter after a Sacred Heart Griffin time-out when the Cyclones pulled within five points. They came out of the time-out and Price knocked down the three and the Streaks never looked back.
Silver Streaks sophomores lost 58-43 to open their season.
