Two people on parole for weapons offenses were picked up last night for being felons in possession of a firearm.

According to a Galesburg Police report, officers were on patrol when they noticed a red and black Dodge Charger with no registration plates traveling northbound on Lincoln Street.

A traffic stop was conducted and police made contact with the driver, 25-year-old Luke Diaz of Davenport, Iowa, who said the car was just purchased and he hadn’t gotten registration or insurance yet.

Officers made contact with the passenger, 23-year-old Ramsey Essex Junior of Galesburg. Essex allegedly refused to identify himself to police and when he was identified police found he had an active Mercer County Warrant.

Diaz had allegedly admitted to police that he had smoked cannabis earlier in the day, prompting a search of his vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was conducted, leading police to find a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat as well as a small amount of cannabis and four 9mm rounds.
