Here’s a recap of the game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:
The Galesburg girls basketball team got its first Western Big 6 Conference victory of the season, 63-44, at United Township over the 0-3 Panthers.
The Silver Streaks and Panthers were tied at 6 in the 1st quarter and then the Streaks went on a little 5-0 run to get an 11-6 lead. They actually never gave up the lead the rest of the game. The Streaks led by 13 at halftime.
But the Panthers weren’t done. After Galesburg built a 16-point 4th quarter lead, United Township went on an 8-0 run to knock the lead down to 8.
But that’s when our Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game, Riley Jenkins, really took over with some big free throws down the stretch, a big 3-pointer, a steal and an assist on her way to a double-double of 26-points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Livingston also finished in double-figures for the Silver Streaks with 15.
The Galesburg girls are now 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Western Big 6. United Township drops to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Galesburg sophomores lost a tough game to UT, 45-44.
The Silver Streaks’ next action is at home next Thursday night against Quincy. We’ll have that broadcast starting with the pregame at 6:40 PM on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.
