A Chicago man was arrested by Galesburg Police Tuesday night for allegedly attempting to make fraudulent purchases and assault.

According to a police report, officers were called out to Walmart at around 6:36 for a call of a subject trying to buy hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards from a cell phone.

Store employees identified the subject as the same person who came in and committed credit card fraud doing the same thing previously. They also identified the vehicle that the subject came to the store in, saying it was still running out in the parking lot.

Officers made contact with a woman in a vehicle who claimed that she and her boyfriend were there to buy Christmas gifts.

Officers then made contact with the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Chase A. Armistead, to which he ran and attempted to exit the store out of the grocery side doors.

Reports note that there was a struggle, in which an employee of Walmart was struck in the face, allegedly by Armistead. The employee told officers that Armistead headbutted him.

Employees told officers that Armistead tried using a cellphone to pay for the purchases of gift cards. His phone was confiscated and police suspect that the phone may also have been stolen, according to the report.
