Galesburg Silver Streaks boys Basketball @ United Township Panthers

Here’s a recap of the game from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

The United Township Panthers scored the first 6 points of the game and that was significant because they led the entire way in a 53-45 win over the Galesburg boys basketball team.

The Silver Streaks got within 1 point on a couple of occasions late in the first half, including an opportunity to take the lead, but the couldn’t execute. The Panthers got the final basket of the first half, the first basket of the second half, and kept the Streaks at bay the rest of the night.

Jaylin McCants did finish with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds, but it was a night of frustrations all evening for the Silver Streaks. They shot just 3 of 27 from three-point range in falling 5-2 on the season.

Aidan Wagner off the bench was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He had a huge sequence in the 4th quarter trying to rally the Streaks when they fell behind double-digits late in the 4th quarter. Aidan got a big basket and then hustled from baseline-to-baseline to come within a couple of inches of a steal that would have gotten the ball back for the Streaks to make it a one possession game. For his effort alone, Aidan was given the Crunch-Time Player of the Game honors.

The Galesburg sophomores did come away victorious at United Township, winning 82-77. Sophomores improve to 3-4 on the season.

The Silver Streaks are back in action Saturday (12/14/19) afternoon against Bettendorf at the Iowa/Illinois Shootout. It’s a 4:00pm scheduled tip-off we’ll have pregame coverage at 3:40pm on 93.7 FM, 1400 AM, and online at wgil.com.
