Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball @ Sterling Golden Warriors

It was a tough night Thursday for the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team, especially shooting the ball, as the Streaks lost to  new Western Big 6 Conference opponent the Sterling Golden Warriors at Musgrove Fieldhouse 57-36.

The Streaks were just 14 for 50 from the field, and really couldn’t get anything going offensively.  They also got out-rebounded 37 to 25.  Sterling, on the other hand, was 25 for 48 from the field.  A lot of their points came from offensive rebounds.  They had four players in double figures, led by Brooklyn Borum with 17.

The Streaks had no players in double figures.  Riley Jenkins had nine points and a couple rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game was Lily Hudgins.  She came off the bench with a key two-pointer in the third quarter — what we thought was going to be the beginning of a Streaks run — along with another big three-pointer in the fourth quarter.  But, the Streaks just could not get over the hump.

Next up is the Streaks Invitational Saturday.  They’ll take on the Burlington Grayhounds in their first game at 11am.  We’ll have coverage starting at 10:40am on WGIL.

The GHS Sophomores were a 48-37 winner over Sterling Thursday night.
