Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs. Mt. Zion Braves

The Galesburg Boys Basketball team‘s defense fueled the offense in an explosive first quarter Friday, outscoring the Mt. Zion Braves 27-4 in that quarter, en route to a 66-26 running clock victory at the Taylorville Holiday Tournament.

The Streaks forced eight Braves turnovers in the first quarter, leading to a number of transition opportunities, and an 18-0 run really opened up the game. The Streaks held Mt. Zion to only six points in the first half, which allowed coach Ryan Hard to rest pretty much his entire starting five in the second half, and see what his second unit could do. The second unit outscored Mt. Zion in the second half as well.

Adam Stewart was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. He finished with a career high 16 points, and tied for leading rebound honors with four. Stewart didn’t miss a shot from the field or the free throw line, going six out of six from the field, and four out of four from the free throw line. He put up seven points in the second quarter, when the Streaks put the game away, had there been any doubt after the first quarter.

Jaylin Mccants also was perfect from the field, and tied Stewart for top scoring honors with 16.

The Streaks are now 10-2 on the season. They’ll take on host Taylorville in the final game of the second day of the tournament Friday evening around 8:30pm. We’ll have the broadcast starting at 8:10pm on WGIL, WGIL.com, and WGIL on the TuneIn Radio app. The game will wind up pool play in the tournament.
