Thousands of dollars in cash and collectible currency were taken from an East Main Street house this weekend.

According to a Galesburg police report, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1600-block of East Main for a residential burglary that occurred earlier in the day.

Officers, upon arrival, were informed by the resident that he had observed damage to the east side entrance of his house. The report says the door had been forced open, causing damage to the deadbolt to break.

The resident advised he had a surveillance system that caught who did it, advising he knew who the individual was. He then showed police where he kept large amounts of money.

He told police he gave money to his kids when there was an emergency and kept a ledger of how much was there.

In total, the report indicates that $5,760 in currency was taken, including $2,500 in collectible bills and $400 in coins. The incident is still being investigated by Galesburg Police.

No arrests have been made as of 10:00 Wednesday morning.
