The Galesburg Silver Streaks, ranked #9 in Class 3A, saw its 15-game win streak come to an end Saturday with a heart-breaking loss at the Chicago Orr Shootout, as Chikere Nwosu knocked down a 26-foot three-pointer at the buzzer, and the #8 in Class 4A Lincoln Park Lions out of the Chicago Public League, defeated the Streaks 59-58. The loss drops the Streaks to 20-3 on the season.
The Streaks had as much as a six-point lead late in the third quarter, before Lincoln Park scored the final six points to tie it at 50, and it was a battle down to the end.
Rylee Milan was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. He knocked down the final three-pointer that gave the Streaks the lead at 57-54. Galesburg got one more free-throw, but it was that three-pointer by Nwosu that one the game for the Lions.
The Streaks played in the shootout to make up a game lost when its own shootout was cancelled due to weather a few weeks ago.
The Streaks next play Tuesday night in a big Western Big 6 Conference match-up against Quincy. First place in the conference will be on the line. You can hear the game Tuesday starting at 7:06pm on WGIL, WGIL.com, and WGIL on the TuneIn Radio app.
