A big second quarter propelled the Galesburg Silver Streaks to their 23rd victory of the season and 18th in the last 19 games with their 63-35 win over United Township, enacting revenge for a lost to the Panthers at their place in East Moline back on December 13th.
Galesburg led just 9 to 7 in the first quarter before going on a little 7-2 run to end the quarter and then quickly scoring the first eight of the second quarter to build a 15-point lead that eventually ballooned to 25 at halftime. The Silver Streaks out-scored the Panthers 25-7 in the second quarter. It was a much quieter and slower pace third and fourth quarters but the Galesburg still prevailed by 28-points.
The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Dre Egipciaco who knocked out all six of his shots including for three-pointers and finished with 18-points. Jaylin McCants had 16-points, including two show stopping dunks in the game. And our Dave’s Autobody Crunch-Time Player of the Game was Demarco Harden. He sparked that big late first quarter and early second quarter run by knocking down a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter buzzer and had a big 3-pointer early in the second quarter, part of his 10-points on the night.
Galesburg now 23-3 on the season and 9-2 in the Western Big 6 Conference. They are still a half-game ahead of Geneseo in the standings after the Maple Leafs won at Alleman.
The sophomore game was exciting as well. The Silver Streaks trailed by seven late in the fourth quarter, scored 13 consecutive points, and ended up defeating the United Township sophomore team, 59-56
