Her vocals have been compared to the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Etta James, while she’s also the first female to ever win Best Instrumentalist for her bass guitar playing at the 2014 Blues Music Awards. She’s Kansas City-native Danielle Nicole, and her third album “Cry No More” was a 2019 Grammy Award nominee in Contemporary Blues. Founding member, lead singer, and bass player of Kansas City blues-rock band Trampled Under Foot, Danielle Nicole stepped out on her own in 2015 with her debut album “Wolf Den.” While with Trampled Under Foot with her brothers Kris and Nick, the band won the ‘Contemporary Blues Album of the Year” award at the 2014 Blues Music Awards. In May 2019, she received Blues Music Awards for both Contemporary Blues Female Artist and Bass Instrumentalist. The Danielle Nicole Band takes the Fat Fish Pub stage Friday, February 29th with opening act Whiskey & Harmony. “I’m not a traditional Blues artist by any means, but I have a heavy respect for that music,” Danielle told WGIL. “I feel like coming from Kansas City, it’s one of the earliest places to swing besides New Orleans, I was raised up to have foundational respect for that music especially coming from (musician) parents. I like to say that it’s (just) American music and we touch on everything. If you can’t find a song to dance to at our show, there’s something wrong. That’s where I’m at.” Rounding out her band are longtime guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Miller, and her older brother Kris Schenebelen on drums. Tickets for the show are $20. Doors open at Fat Fish at 6:00pm with the concert beginning at 7:00pm.
