Berger named new Community Development Director

The City of Galesburg’s new Community Development Director has over 11 years of experience in community and economic development. Ryan Berger will fill the position of Community Development Director and is slated to start on March 23rd. Berger’s resume includes serving as the Land Development Manager for the City of Moline, the Planning and Redevelopment Administrator for the City of Rock Island, and the Community Development Director in Groveland, Florida. In a statement, Berger said, “I look forward to learning more about the department, strengthening the goals and mission set forth, and becoming involved in the community.” The City’s Community Development Director will provide services that include: zoning, housing programs, planning, code enforcement, and coordinator of refuse and transit contracts. Berger has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State University. Appointed by City Manager Todd Thompson, the Community Development Director is responsible for oversight of the Community Development Department. Berger was appointed after a comprehensive search which included interviews with a City search panel.
