Judge reassigned after placing child in court’s adult lockup

CHICAGO (AP) – Cook County Circuit Court spokesman Pat Milhizer says a judge seen placing a child in a court lock-up that is reserved for adults is no longer presiding over cases. Judge Jackie Portman-Brown was placed on administrative duties pending a March 4 meeting of the court’s executive committee. Milhizer didn’t respond to questions about the reason for Portman-Brown’s re-assignment. However, a video released by the Cook County sheriff’s office shows Portman-Brown escorting the child into the lockup. A male sheriff’s deputy is seen looking on. A sheriff’s official says the department is investigating the incident to determine if deputies followed policies and procedures.
