Former Streaks Football Coach Dennison passes away

Former Galesburg Silver Streaks football coach Brian Dennison passed away unexpectedly on Friday. He was 52. Dennison was a 1986 Westmer High School graduate and went on to graduate from North Central College in Naperville with a Bachelor’s in Education. A stand-out in football, basketball, and track, he was a captain his senior year for the North Central College football team and later chosen to the NCC’s All-Century Football Team. From 1990 to 1993 he was an assistant football coach at North Central. In 1997, he took the Head Football Coach position and taught at Galesburg High School replacing Mike Hoskins. The program was in the midst of a struggle following a playoff appearance in 1991. He spent 5 years as the head coach for GHS his teams went 12-33. In 2002, he took a position at Aledo High School / Mercer County High School where he coached and taught until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Monica and his sons Carl and Jacob. The family is having a private visitation and graveside service with a celebration of life service to follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Aledo First Baptist Church, Mercer County Athletic Boosters, or the Jacob Dennison College Fund.
