A Galesburg woman accused of stabbing another woman in a Maple Avenue home late Saturday night has had her bond set at $1,000,000.

28-year-old Shamere Kimble is charged with two counts of 1st-degree murder, and a count of aggravated battery for alleging stabbing 21-year-old Shamyra Barber.

Kimble could face 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted of either murder charge.

Judge Curtis Lane set Kimble’s bond over the weekend.

Public Defender Daniel O’Brien asked on Monday for bond to be closer to $100,000 citing Kimble’s ties to the community, her job as a CNA, her three children that live with her, and a lack of criminal history.

Judge Lane maintained the $1,000,000 bond and set a preliminary hearing for May 21.

Lane said he kept bond at that level because of the seriousness of the charges, and because of a failure to appear warrant on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Lane indicated Kimble has made statements to police.
